Honorable Head Delegates and Advisors:

Riverside Community College District Model UN is proud to announce the 14th annual Inland Empire Conference – Model United Nations (IECMUN)! The Conference will be held on Saturday, February 2nd, 2019. This conference will be a great experience for many students new to Model UN and for those practicing the skills necessary for success in NMUN-New York.

Given that 40% of the world is younger than 24 years old, we wanthed this conference’s theme to be centered around Youth in the International System. We will be simulating three committees, one for high schools (UNICEF) and two for colleges (COP, and SC), and depending on attendance we may add another committee. The committees and topics are listed below:

  • Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP): The Role of Youth in Achieving the Paris Agreement – Colleges
  • UN International Emergency Children’s Fund (UNICEF): Eliminating Violence against Children and Youth – High Schools
  • Security Council: Youth, Peace and Security (Open Agenda) – Colleges

COP and UNICEF will consist of one delegate per country (single delegations), whereas, schools have the opportunity to submit two delegates per country (double delegations) for SC.

Background guides on these topics with in-depth explanation and research tips can be found under Committees & Topics. There will be a $10 fee for this conference to provide an excellent conference experience. It will run from 8:00am-5:30pm, with an hour allotted for lunch, which we will provide, including vegetarian and vegan choices upon request. We will be following National Model UN rules (NMUN rules) with some exceptions, which we will clarify in a follow-up e-mail.

Please register by January 4th if possible under Registration and provide us with the number of delegates you intend to bring. Please note that assignments will be distributed on a first-come, first serve basis. When you register please let us know if you have any preferred countries. We will strive to ensure each delegation receives a diverse list of country assignments in addition to meeting your requested countries. Please confirm the final number of delegates you are bringing by January 25th to help us fulfill all final details. We will be sure to send a map, rules, logistics, parking information, and the conference schedule as the conference date approaches and post it under Conference Logistics.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have in regards to IECMUN at the e-mail provided below. Click through the tabs of IECMUN 2019 for any more information on the conference and registration. As always, we strive to provide students with the skills necessary for success in future conferences and to continue our traditions of academic and professional excellence across Southern California. Thank you for your interest; we look forward to seeing you and your delegation in February!
