PACMUN 2017

Hello and welcome to RCCDMUN’s first ever Practice Academic Conference for Model UN (PACMUN)!

Honorable Head Delegates and Advisors,

Riverside Community College District Model UN is proud to announce it will be hosting its first ever Practice Academic Conference for Model UN (PACMUN)! The Conference will be held on Saturday, November 11th, 2017. This conference will be a great experience for many students new to Model UN that are interested in learning about and practicing the skills necessary for success in future Model UN conferences, such as NMUN-Canada and NMUN-New York.

For this conference, we will be simulating two committees, one for high schools and one for colleges (UNEA for high schools and UNCTAD for colleges, depending on attendance):

  • United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) | Protection of the Environment in Areas Affected by Armed Conflict
  • United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) | Minimizing the Negative Effects of Globalization

Background guides on these topics with in-depth explanation and research tips can be found under Committees and Topics. There will be no fee for this conference so that we can have as many students participate as possible. It will run from 9:00am-5:00pm, with an hour provided for lunch, which we will provide, including vegetarian and vegan choices upon request. We will be following National Model UN rules (NMUN rules) with some exceptions, which we will clarify in a follow-up e-mail.

Please register by October 27th if possible under Registration and provide us with the number of delegates you intend to bring. Please note that assignments will be distributed on a first-come, first serve basis. When you register please let us know if you have any preferred countries. We will strive to ensure each delegation receives a diverse list of country assignments in addition to meeting your requested countries. Each country will be represented by a single delegate in both committees. Please confirm the final number of delegates you are bringing by November 6th to help us fulfill all final details. We will be sure to send a map, rules, logistics, parking information, and the conference schedule as the conference date approaches and post it on the website.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have in regards to PACMUN at the e-mail provided below. Please check the other pages for any more information on the committees, registration and so forth. As always, we strive to provide students with the skills necessary for success in future conferences and to continue our traditions of academic and professional excellence across Southern California. Thank you for your time and interest and we look forward to seeing you and your delegation in November!

Sincerely,

Tomás Ocampo
